Pound for pound king, Floyd Mayweather has announced that he will face Marcos Maidana in a highly anticipated rematch on the 13th of Sep.
Mayweather cleared the air in an interview at the BET awards:
“September 13th is back to business. Marcos Maidana vs Floyd Mayweather part 2
and then in May I’m going to have a big surprise for you. Keep tuning in,” the boxer explained.
Only a few months ago in a hard fought contest, the unbeaten American scored a majority point’s decision victory over Marcos Maidana. Although the Argentine proved to be a much harder test than many had expected.
Maidana confirmed the rematch speculation on twitter by stating:
“The rematch is being discussed. Respect to Floyd Mayweather, he is a man of his word. Yet only fists will do the talking in the ring.”
The scheduled rematch will be a delight to fans, as many agreed that it was Mayweather’s most entertaining fight in years.
Interestingly, Mayweather teased the boxing community by stating there was a big surprise in store come May. British fans will wonder whether Amir Khan will finally get his shot at the sport’s number one, alternatively yet unlikely a long awaited showdown with Manny Pacquiao could be in sight.
The Mayweather circus continues, as the boxing community awaits his every spoken word and each fighter in the welterweight division prays to land the “Mayweather lottery”.
