Paul Scholes had something of an inadvertent swipe at Ander Herrera this week, with the Manchester United icon claiming the club have not been able to recruit a player anywhere near comparable with Toni Kroos.
Scholes wanted Kroos
Herrera completed his move last week, joining from Athletic Bilbao for a reported £32 million, and arrives at Old Trafford with the task of becoming the successor to Scholes - a daunting task indeed.
It is a task to have been even more intimidating following comments from Scholes himself, who has expressed disappointment that Manchester United had been unable to complete a deal to sign Kroos from Bayern Munich.
“I love watching Toni Kroos. I think he’s brilliant. I love the way he controls the ball and controls games. He can really play a pass and has superb vision,” Scholes said in his Paddy Power blog.

Herrera no match
Scholes continued to say that Manchester United have not signed “anything like the quality of Kroos”. That has to hurt for Herrera, and it is now down to him to prove he can offer the club exactly what they require in midfield.
