Claude Giroux has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons today. The Philadelphia Flyers star has seen himself become the butt of internet jokes after being arrested for "repeatedly grabbing the buttocks of a male police officer" according to a report from the Ottawa Sun.
In a reveal that will come as a surprise to no-one at all, it is believed that alcohol played a part in the incident.
Cop-ing a Feel
The Flyers centre was at The Great Canadian Cabin in the Byward Market club district, when his light hearted tap hit a bum note with the officer on patrol. Apparently even a hockey star can't take the law into his own hands, literally.
The 26-year-old Giroux was reportedly seen inside a police cruiser in Ottawa sometime around 9 p.m. on July 1. A Twitter post from a witness on hand read that they had seen the Flyers man in the back of a cop was posted to Twitter on Tuesday at 9:19 p.m.
"We are aware of reports surrounding Claude Giroux." Flyers GM Ron Hextall said in a statement to Philadelphia media. "Until we have more information, we will withhold making any further comment."
Giroux signed an eight-year contract with the Flyers in 2013 and has been with the organization since 2007. He was third in the Points race last season, ending the campaign with 28 goals and 58 assists.
Not a Laughing Matter
But seriously, the Feel-adelphia Flyers can't be too happy about this as it reflects badly on the star and then the team as a whole. Whilst the situation is funny for us all it does equal bad PR for the franchise and their man was actually arrested for what is sexual harassment.
At some point the jokes have to stop and accountability has to be meted out. But it is not this day.
