Tim Howard is a True American hero after his impressive performance for the USA in their brave defeat against Belgium in the second round of the World Cup Tuesday night.
Now things have gone in a little Tim Howard crazy in America since his heroic display for the national team. Morning programme, Good Morning America, even went as far as to saying that Tim Howard should run for president.
The Everton goalkeeper himself was truckling to hold back the tears during his post-match interview, as he praised his teammates for their efforts. The US went down 2-0 in extra-time, before pulling a goal back in the second-half of extra-time. Despite their best efforts, the US couldn't get an equalizer, and Howard admitted (in the video on this link) that the result was heartbreaking.
"You know it's heartbreaking. I don't think we could have given anymore. We left it all out there and we got beat by a very good team.
"They took their chances well. I've got heartache, it hurts. [Saving shots] is my job. That's what I sign up to do. The levi was always going to break at some points with the amount of shots they had."
This is not the first time that Tim Howard has warn his heart on his sleeve. In an infamous interview with the BBC, the US keeper once explained how he would cry if Leighton Baines left the club.
Whatever you make of his emotions, Tim Howard was outstanding on the night as he made 16 saves to keep out the Belgium's for long periods. But modest as ever he decided to praise his team-mates for their efforts.
"What an incredible group we have. Sometimes when you give your best it doesn't come off. When we switched over in extra-time we said let's just try and get a goal and put them under pressure. We did that but the dream fell short. We will never forget this night."
Tim Howard is the hero
Even though Howard has acted with modesty, everyone else gone full tilt on the Howard love train. This includes several crazy tweets in the last 24 hours.
One of the most impressive was the tweet by Belgium defender Vincent Kompany himself. Kompany himself simply tweeted. "Two words. Tim Howard."
