Earlier this week on Monday Night Raw, Chris Jericho made another emphatic return to the WWE by taking out The Miz before being attacked by The Wyatt Family.
A short while before Monday Night Raw went on air, the company heavily advertised that a former WWE Champion would be making his return on the night, prompting fans to predict that Brock Lesnar would be returning.
It was made clear once The Miz was announced as the former championship making his return, only for the fans to forget about him in an instant and focus on the returning Chris Jericho, who hit a Codebreaker on The Miz before he was confronted by The Wyatt Family.
Unless you read the dirt-sheet websites a short while before Raw went live, it was quite surprising to see Jericho return; he is always quizzed on a return by the passionate fans and he always seems to have projects lined up or he can’t see himself doing anything relevant in any feud, but that is all about the change in the coming months.
On Chris Jericho’s latest episode of his podcast ‘Talk is Jericho’, he shared with his listeners just how he went about returning and keeping the news under wraps.
He mentioned that he and the WWE keep in regular communication, so obviously they have a good working relationship as Jericho is often returning to the business which made him the household name he is today. The most recent talks held between the two date before WrestleMania XXX.
He wanted a spot on the card and had two names he wanted to work with, Daniel Bryan and Bray Wyatt, both of whom were involved in different programmes. Daniel Bryan was locked in a long-term feud with The Authority, defeating Triple H, Batista and Randy Orton one the same night to become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion; so he wasn’t an option.
Bray Wyatt was also unavailable at WrestleMania XXX as his feud with John Cena came to fruition at the Elimination Chamber when they cost Cena the victory; this led on to multiple matches between the two, culminating at the Payback event where John Cena defeated Bray Wyatt in a Last Man Standing Match.
It depends on when Jericho and the WWE were in contact, if it was after the Elimination Chamber then it was out of their control and Bray Wyatt was definitely unavailable. However, if the talks were held before the Elimination Chamber then perhaps they could have gone down a different route, but nevertheless we will finally be seeing a feud between the two.
He went on to say that the WWE reached out to him approximately one month ago from one of the writers, who pitched Jericho the idea of working with Bray Wyatt and The Wyatt Family. After three weeks of not hearing back form the WWE, he then heard from Triple H on June 27 and a deal was reached ‘within five minutes’ according to Jericho.
Jericho is more than happy to put over young talent, and was supposedly ecstatic after finding out he could work with Bray Wyatt so his decision time comes as no real surprise, anybody would jump at the chance.
Chris Jericho then had to fly into Boston on Monday morning, Raw was being held in Hartford, Connecticut and Jericho wouldn’t fly into the City as fans would spoil it all by spotting him, he had to drive into Hartford and arrived for 5:30, out of the fans sight. He earlier posted a photo of him with his family on his Instagram account, to mess with the fans which he is infamous for.
Mark Carrano, who is the Head of Talent relations in the WWE and you might see on Total Divas from time to time, met with Jericho and escorted him to a crew tour bus where he sat for about four hours before WWE agent Dean Malenko met with Jericho and they discussed the direction he would be going in, which Vince McMahon agreed to.
Before making his way to the gorilla position, Jericho mentioned he had a meeting with The Wyatt Family, The Miz as well as Michael Hayes before meeting Vince and Stephanie.
He has also revealed that he will be working an almost-full time WWE schedule which include live events and the upcoming Japan tour, next week on Monday Night Raw he is expected to make his in-ring return by taking on The Miz.
