Paul Pogba return among six most ridiculous recent transfer rumours (1)

The prospect of 48 hours without live World Cup action is enough to make any fan of a top Premier League club hit the transfer gossip columns and scan desperately for a sign that fresh talent is on the way, but some of the rumours served up so far this summer have been utterly absurd.

Expect things to get more even silly when the tournament concludes, with Arsenal and Manchester United fans in particular conscious that they will definitely sign more players this summer and therefore get linked with new arrivals in just about every position.

Put it this way, if any star stands out at this summer's South American showpiece a Premier League scout will have been watching, therefore a link to a side in the market for a player in that position will soon follow.

You can definitely understand the logic in some of these deals, for example Mexico stopper Guillermo Ochoa is available on a free transfer and producing the kind of consistent performances that demand attention.

Ochoa to Arsenal or Liverpool, fair enough, but Dutch veteran Dirk Kuyt to sign for Manchester United is a ridiculous idea. Even more so the notion that the Red Devils would stump up £60m for a player in Paul Pogba that was allowed to walk away for free just two years ago.

There's plenty more where that came from, although its an unhealthy obsession with some stars that needs urgent attention in some cases rather than just a silly transfer rumour.

Could you actually see any of these proposed deals coming off, or have you seen an even more ludicrous transfer story on the net this summer? Click ahead to find out!
