Unbeaten welterweight boxer Kell Brook has finally got the date and venue confirmed for his chance at glory, with promoted Eddie Hearn having revealed the venue for his title fight against Shawn Porter.
Brook, aged 28, holds an unblemished 32-0 record and has been waiting for his world title shot for a couple of years now.
Brook has had to wait much longer than many expected for his chance at the title and has at times been an extremely frustrated individual.
Brook has been number one contender for the IBF crown for a while now and was originally supposed to fight previous champion Devon Alexander. The fight was cancelled three times due to injury on both sides, however, and Brook has had to be patient.
After what seems like an age of negotiations with the current champion Porter it was finally confirmed by Hearn that the venue for the bout will be the Stubhub Center in Carson, California.
It has also been confirmed that the date for the fight will be August 16 and now Brook can really get stuck into training and make sure that he is fully prepared for what is going to be the toughest of his life.
26-year-old Porter is also an undefeated boxer fresh from a destructive win over the veteran Paulie Malignaggi. Malignaggi is a good, solid world level boxer who provides tough tests for any fighter but he was blown away by Porter.
Porter looked vicious in the ring and finished off Malignaggi with a fourth-round knockout. It was a truly impressive fight from a young man who looks to be a very challenging prospect for Brook.
Brook will be determined to make up for lost time and is sure to be fully concentrated on the fight as he realises that a victory will not only allow him to achieve his dream of becoming a world champion but will also lead on to other huge fights.
Khan v Brook on the horizon?
The prospect of an all British showdown with Amir Khan would increase. There is a rivalry between the two men and if they were to face-off it would be a fantastic event for British boxing.
Brook has to remain focused on Porter, though, as he is a very dangerous fighter in his own right and a win against him will not be easily earned.
Porter will be the favourite heading into the fight but Brook himself is a very good talent with good power and skill.
This could be the defining fight of Brook's career as should he win, he would be a star. Should he lose, though, his chances of another world title shot would appear low.
