As John Cena enters his staggering 15th reign as a world champion, it seemed somehow appropriate to look forward to the future, and to who could potentially in the future hold just one title, let alone be close to surpassing Ric Flair's long thought insurmountable tally of 16 world titles.
Here I will look at the five men that I think are looking the most likely to be future champions....
Antonio Cesaro, or as he is now simply known, Cesaro, is one of the most promising talents currently in WWE. Ever since being given a new sense of direction as part of 'The Real Americans' with Jack Swagger and Zeb Coulter, Cesaro looked to be going strength to strength.
This momentum built until Wrestlemania 30, in which Cesaro won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royale. Following on from this, Cesaro has stalled slightly, with the brief face turn after splitting from The Real Americans being followed by the immediate introduction as the new 'Paul Heyman Guy'.
While Cesaro has been somewhat held back by a suspect new theme song and a lack of real direction in booking, with Heyman as his mouthpiece, coupled with Cesaro's freakish natural strength and wrestling ability, we are surely looking at a future world champion.
4. Dean Ambrose
As part of the Shield, Ambrose has proven to be very successful in the ring and especially on the mic. While beginning as the true leader of the Shield, Ambrose seemed to gradually move back in the pecking order of the group.
However, the recent Shield split has given Ambrose the opportunity to really showcase his own natural ability. As his work in the past few weeks proves, Ambrose is a very adept face, getting superb reactions from the crowd in his beat downs of Seth Rollins.
If Ambrose can continue in this manner, he could be one of a few up and comers to re-establish the badass babyface as opposed to the cookie cutter types we have seen from people such as John Cena.
Being equally if not more capable as a heel, Ambrose looks to have a bright future and while he may not be WWE's preferred champion, there is an air of Stone Cold Steve Austin about the man which could see the formation of a fan favourite and future champ.
3. Seth Rollins
The second member of the Shield to feature in this list, Seth Rollins has shined as the 'architect' of the group. From his high flying moves to his ever improving work on the mic, Rollins is a wrestler who has bags of talent. This is highlighted again by his recent work in his feud with Dean Ambrose as Triple H's new lackey.
As we know, it takes two to tango, and as such to get true babyface reactions it is important to have an equally competent heel. Rollins in his current form screams future corporate champion, carrying an air of arrogance about him, as well of course as the Money in the Bank briefcase.
Assuming a successful cash-in, Rollins is the most likely as it stands to get his title first from this list, and I for one look forward to seeing how far he can go.
2. Bray Wyatt
How can you sum up Bray Wyatt? Mysterious? Dark? Dangerous? Insane? This man is, in my opinion, the next mega heel of this company. Wyatt has that aura of a man who can't be beaten, at least not mentally.
Despite losses to John Cena at Wrestlemania 30 and Payback, as well as a very poorly overbooked win at Extreme Rules which made Bray come out the weaker, Wyatt has managed to keep this awe in his presence.
He is the best current mic worker in the WWE, with charisma other wrestlers would kill for, as highlighted by the huge pops he gets on a consistent basis. He has also proven to be a good worker in the ring, with excellent matches such as against Daniel Bryan at the Royal Rumble and his Last Man Standing match vs John Cena.
If Wyatt can keep up the mystique surrounding his character, then he is surely nailed on as a future world champion. He brings a legitimacy to his heel work which brings out the best in any babyface he is up against, and that is something to be treasured in this era of diminishing crowd reactions.
1. Roman Reigns
You didn't think I would leave this man out did you? The muscle of the Shield, Roman Reigns, has everything WWE look for in a future champ. He has the physique, he has the look, he has the pedigree(related to the Rock) and he has the voice.
Reigns screams 'badass' and this has helped him to get massively over with the WWE fans. Of course his in ring work is still very green, exemplified by the fact he is still yet to have a singles match last longer than 10 minutes. But he will improve on this as time goes by, having only been on the main roster two years, and with the right booking, he could even go on to become the next face of the company.
With it seeming likely that Triple H will put Reigns over at Summerslam or not long after, evidently he too feels that Reigns is 'best for business'.
