Barcelona will kick-start their bid for Liverpool's Luis Suarez in England. The Reds will open transfer talks with the Catalan club over the Uruguayan striker - but want Alexis Sanchez as part of deal.
Anfield managing director Ian Ayre met officials from Barcelona in London on Wednesday, with a Liverpool source confirming later that "the talks held today were productive, there are sensible expectations on both sides.
"Further talks and discussions are to take place, but nothing is finalised as of now."
Suarez, banned for four months for a bite on Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini, scored 31 goals in 33 league appearances last season to attract interest from both Barcelona and Real Madrid
Following the 27-year-old's apology - which Barca reportedly had a major influence in procuring - the Primera Liga side have stepped up their pursuit.
While Real Madrid’s interest has reportedly cooled since the Uruguay international’s bite ban, that of their La Liga rivals hasn’t, with some even suggesting that Suarez’s apology was Barcelona orchestrated.
Such a view was backed up by the words of Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta, who praised the “humility” of Suarez for apologising.
The Catalan club have been constantly linked with Suarez in recent weeks, with reports previously suggesting that a fee of around £80 million could see Suarez move to the Nou Camp.
