The United States may have been knocked out of the World Cup by Belgium on Tuesday, but it's not all doom and gloom for the Stars and Stripes. They found themselves a new star for the future in full back DeAndre Yedlin.
But just who is the Seattle Sounders man? Well this is where we come in...
Name: DeAndre Yedlin
Position: Right Back
Team: Seattle Sounders
Apps: 42 Goals: 1
International Caps: 7
Yedlin is just 20-years old and elevated his stock to a never before seen level. The speedy right back excelled against the Belgians, managing to cope with star Chelsea winger Eden Hazard, as well as causing numerous headaches for Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen with his pace, incredible engine and sheer will to drag the States into the Belgian's final third.
Yedlin signed with the Sounders on January 11, 2013 as the sides first ever Homegrown Player. He previously played two years of college soccer with the Akron Zips - one of the top teams in college ball - playing 23 times in his freshman season and a further 22 as a sophomore, scoring once and grabbing 12 assists.
He made his debut on March 2 in a 1-0 home defeat to the Montreal Impact. Yedlin was named to the MLS Team of the Week for his performance in that game, becoming the first rookie to earn the honor in his professional debut. Yedlin netted his first for the side in the CONCACAF Champions League against LIGA MX side Tigres.
Yedlin was named to the MLS All-Star team that took on Roma last summer, making him the first rookie to be named to the All-Star team since 2005. In a ranking constructed by MLS Soccer, Yedlin was named as the third best player in the MLS under the age of 24, despite giving years away to his rivals.
Yedlin has multiple skills in his arsenal that give him a very bright future indeed. On top of the sheer speed that he demonstrated against Belgium, the youngster has supreme composure that belies his young age, being capable in possession and a confidence that is hard to match. The right back has bags of potential and Seattle will be fielding multiple enquiries for his services in the near future.
You can expect multiple scouts at CenturyLink Field as well as teams fighting to bring him in on trial at the end of the MLS season. That is of course if Anderlecht don't snap him up pretty soon.
