Manchester United are at loggerheads with Real Madrid over the price of Argentina winger Angel di Maria. The Red Devils have been offered the chance to sign the 26-year-old, but their £30 million valuation is £10 million less than Real Madrid’s asking price.
Di Maria is reportedly keen to leave the Bernabeu because he feels undervalued and unappreciated, which suits Real Madrid, who are keen to replace him with AS Monaco and Colombia playmaker James Rodriguez.
Real Madrid confident deal can be done
According to the Daily Star, who relay this latest information, a source at the Bernabeu insists that a deal can happen - thanks in no small part to super-agent Jorge Mendes, who represents both Rodriguez and Di Maria.
Real Madrid want to make Rodriguez, along with his international teammate Radamel Falcao, their latest ‘Galacticos’ this summer. Financing the double deal is expected to cost the reigning European champions well over €100 million, so offloading at least one star name will be vital in the club’s bid to balance the books.
Will Manchester United raise their bid?
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal will appreciate that it’s not every day a world-class player is effectively offered on a plate. Di Maria, who scored 11 goals and provided a remarkably 26 assists last season, undoubtedly falls into that world-class category.
The South American was one of Real Madrid’s key performers last season - alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric - and produced a stunning performance in May’s Champions League final against local rivals Atletico Madrid, which earned him the Man of the Match award.

Di Maria loves United?
A 2009 interview conducted by the News of the World and published by FourFourTwo magazine quotes Di Maria as stating that his dream “is to play some day for Manchester United”.
“And I won’t stop till I get it,” he added. “When I watch [Wayne] Rooney and all of them on TV, I can’t wait to play there at Old Trafford. “When I was a little boy I watched Arsenal games as well, but Manchester United always dazzled me most.”
This indicates that, should Manchester United stump up the required cash, Di Maria would opt for a move to Old Trafford over Arsenal, who are also keen.
However, the player is understood to have reservations about joining a club not competing in the Champions League next season. United finished last season’s Premier League campaign in seventh place, meaning the English giants also missed out on a place in the Europa League.
