Not content with the midfield addition of Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona, Jose Mourinho is now planning a last-ditch attempt to sign Bayern Munich star Toni Kroos this summer. (Metro)

The Germany international had been expected to join Real Madrid, but Chelsea have now matched their £19.9m offer as they look to try and hijack the deal.

The Blues have already promised to pay Kroos a mouth-watering £125,000-a-week in wages, and will try to tempt the 24-year-old to Stamford Bridge with a lucrative signing on bonus.

However, Mourinho does look set to miss out on his Bayern Munich team-mate Mario Mandzukic, amid reports the Croatian striker is set to sign for Atletico Madrid - coming in as a direct replacement for Chelsea-bound Diego Costa. (Daily Express)

The news potentially comes as a double blow with doubts now surrounding Romelu Lukaku's prospective La Liga loan move at the Vicente Calderon next season.

Thorgan Hazard

Thorgan Hazard looks set to join Borussia Monchengladbach, with the club's sporting director claiming that they have reached an agreement with Chelsea to bring the Belgian midfielder to Borussia-Park next season. (Daily Star)

The 21-year-old is yet to make a first-team appearance at Stamford Bridge after following brother Eden to the Blues during the summer of 2012 and has spent the last two seasons back in his homeland with Pro League outfit Zulte Waregem.

Next Luke Shaw?

After missing on the signing of Luke Shaw earlier this summer, Chelsea will monitor the progress of Southampton's latest academy prospect Matt Targett, who is set for a first-team role at St Mary's this season. (Sky Sports)

The 18-year-old left-back has already attracted admiring glances from Arsenal and Liverpool, and will be looking to nail down a spot in new manager Ronald Koeman's side.

Eliaquim Mangala

France international defender Eliaquim Mangala has his heart set on a move to Chelsea, despite the fact Manchester City have agreed to meet Porto's €40 million asking price. (L'Equipe)

Mangala has been tracked by City for the best part of two years and continually impressed club scouts who continue to search for a long-term partner for Citizens captain Vincent Kompany at the heart of defence.
