Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, has targeted a further two Atletico Madrid players, Filipe Luis and Joao Miranda, to bolster his squad for next season. Mourinho has already added significant improvements in the form of Cesc Fabregas for a reported fee of £30m, followed by Luis and Miranda's former Atletico Madrid teammate Diego Costa for a fee in the region of £32 million.
Jose Mourinho seems to be grabbing this summer transfer window by the scruff of the neck and is wasting no time in bringing in big name players for big prices with no expense spared.
The next two players on his list, as I previously mentioned, are Filipe Luis and Joao Miranda, as reported in The Daily Mail. Luis has a buy-out clause of £19 million in his current contract however Chelsea feel that the player is not worth that, forcing the club into a stand off with Chelsea as they are only prepared to pay between £8m and £10m for the Brazilian left back. Will Chelsea up their offer? or Will Atletico lower their asking price?
However there could be a possible third option. Luis has been begging his current employers to lower their price for him as he wishes to push through his move to the Stamford Bridge club with no success, if willing, Luis could possibly pay the difference in Chelsea's best offer and his buy-out clause to force through the move. And this would be best for all parties, apart from Luis' bank balance as it would see a hit of roughly £9m.
Personally, I feel the most likely option would be that Chelsea would foot the bill to activate the player's clause as they are in need of a well-rounded, experienced left back with Ashley Cole already having left and Ryan Bertrand seems to be following him out the door.
Reports are suggesting that Chelsea are looking at Filipe Luis' defensive partner Joao Miranda as well. Miranda has two years left on his contract at current La Liga champions, Atletico Madrid and holds a £24.2m buy-out clause over his head. They could come up against some competition to capture their man as it is regularly reported that Manchester United manager, Louis Van Gaal is a keen admirer with United rather desperate to bring him to Old Trafford. Both clubs recognise that Miranda could be a very good fit for the Premier League and time will tell to who gets their man.
