Luis Suarez will be making a mistake in moving to Barcelona because Lionel Messi rules the roost, according to Paul Scholes.
The Manchester United legend feels that Real Madrid would be a better option for the Liverpool striker because Messi may not like the purchase of a rival forward.
Scholes was adamant that the Argentina star would not appreciate another player occupying a central role and taking up the mantle of leading goalscorer at the Catalan club and that the Santiago Bernabeu would be the better option for him.
Messi an issue?
“If Suarez does sign for Barcelona, will Lionel Messi ‘accept’ him? Suarez is a centre- forward and he won’t want to play out wide,” the former Old Trafford midfielder said in his Paddy Power blog.
“I cannot see Suarez and Messi linking well. It seems to me, if Messi likes you, you’ll play. If he doesn’t, you’re wasting your time.
“And I think Suarez is making a mistake going to Barcelona — he’d be better suited to Real Madrid.”
Recent reports have suggested that Barcelona and Liverpool are close to an agreement over Suarez and an announcement is expected in the near future.
Liverpool have reportedly asked if Alexis Sanchez can be made a makeweight in the deal, but the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City are also interested in the Chile international.
Considered one of Manchester United’s greatest ever players, Scholes has been far more vocal with the media since he retired for the second time last summer. His Paddy Power columns have seen him criticise Luke Shaw’s transfer fee, the signing of Ander Herrera and Luis Suarez's character.
