James Rodriguez grasshopper and seven crazy animal pitch invaders (1)

James Rodriguez may have been inconsolable last night after Colombia crashed out of the 2014 World Cup to hosts Brazil after a brilliant display, but he may be interested in one or two of the photos from the match.

Sensational display

Rodriguez has been sensational throughout the tournament and has a good chance of winning the Golden Boot with the six goals he bagged in Brazil, his sixth being a late penalty during the 2-1 defeat in Fortaleza.

Even if he doesn't win it, the AS Monaco star will be remembered for one particularly bizarre moment during the match and will be remembered for quite some time. Some eagle-eyed snappers caught sight of a MASSIVE grasshopper hitching a ride on the star man's shirt sleeve.

Social media response

Some cruel observers will say Rodriguez didn't notice because he is so used to carrying others on the pitch, while some have produced very clever Tweets in response, but all are agreed that it was a moment worthy of football comedy DVDs for years to come.

As you can imagine, this got GMS reminiscing about previous animal invasions and, of course, we decided to do a little round-up of them.
