Tottenham have entered the race to sign Southampton star Dejan Lovren, according to the Daily Mirror. Liverpool are currently in pole position to sign him, but Mauricio Pochettino is keen on a reunion with the defender.
Ronald Koeman isn't too eager to let Lovren leave the club, but it's believed the defender wants out of the St Mary's club. The asking price for the player is £18million, despite joining the Saints for £8.5million from Lyon.
Initial Reds bid rejected
Liverpool have already made an offer of £15million for the 24-year old but the offer was rejected. Now, ex-Saints boss Pochettino is ready to offer Lovren the chance to link up with him once more.
He would be a much better option for Tottenham than the likes of Michael Dawson and Younes Kaboul, if his performances last season are anything to go by. He could also be an excellent partner for Belgian Jan Vertonghen in the centre of defence.
Liverpool more focused on Suarez
Spurs could be set to offer up to £20million to try and snatch the signature of the Croatian from under the noses of Liverpool. Reds boss Brendan Rodgers appears to currently be more interested in sorting out a deal for Luis Suarez and also finding a potential replacement striker.
With this distraction, Pochettino could step in and secure a deal for Lovren and stop Liverpool from signing their third Southampton player of the summer, behind Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert. If Koeman does lose Lovren, then he would have a huge dilemma on his hands as it would be the fourth top player that the club have lost this summer.
