Everybody likes to get a bargain, but that's not always possible. When you're shopping for something you desperately need and have a deadline to get it, you're setting yourself up to overpay.

In the mad, mad world of football finance anything goes. You can buy a Marouane Fellaini for £28m or a Yohan Cabaye for £8m, pick up a Robin Van Persie for £24m or pay £3m more for an 18-year-old left-back.
