Pep Guardiola have successfully signed former Valencia defender, Juan Bernat on a five-year deal after he passed his medical on Monday.
The highly-rated 21-year-old joins the Bavarian side after leaving the his boyhood club following his long stay at the Mestalla. In his time there he made 51 appearances for the first team and he has risen up the ranks in the Spain squad moving up from the Under-16 side to the Under-21s.
He becomes the third Iberian player to join the Bundesliga giants as he joins up with Thiago Alcantara and Javi Martinez.
Bernat excited by move
Bernat is excited to start the next step in his career and he cannot wait to play to along side some of the biggest stars in Europe.
"I'm really happy that I'm going to be able to play for this club in future," the young Spaniard said. "Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in Europe and the world and I'm really, really pleased to be able to play in a team alongside the likes of Lahm, Neuer, Schweinsteiger, Robben and Ribery, and to have Pep Guardiola as coach. I'll give everything I have for the club to be successful."
Fierce competition for places at the Allianz Arena
According to the Daily Mail, Bayern have paid around the figure of €10million for the defender who can also operate as a winger which would suit their style of play. The full-back however, will have to do a lot if he is to push David Alaba and Daniel van Buyten out of the side.
He joins a club that has no knowledge of failure after following on from their treble winning season with another successive league title, the DFB Pokal and the FIFA Club World Cup. Bernat, who is a product of the well-developed youth system at Valencia and in the Spain camp was part of the squad that won the European U19 Championships in Estonia two years ago.
In his last league campaign, he helped Valencia finish 8th in La Liga which was lower than many expected but their lower rank was heavily effected by their progress in the Europa League as they made it all the way to the semi-finals.
Whilst one youngster comes in, one departs. Raif Husic has left the Allianz and has has joined league rivals, Werder Bremen. The 18 year old goalkeeper failed to make a senior appearance for the the Bavarians since leaving from Augsburg and has featured just eight times for their reserves. Despite his lack of experience with the main Bayern team, Husic is looking forward to furthering his experience by joining a fellow German league side.
There are still several rumours floating around regarding many of Bayern's elite stars as Toni Kroos has confirmed he knows where he will be playing next year, but has given no indications where, and Mario Mandzukic looks set to join Atletico, according to reports in the Daily Express.
