We start with the Scottish Open where this week’s pairings have been announced, and Phil Mickleson will begin his defence of the title alongside Luke Donald and Ryder Cup hopeful Joost Luiten. The man known as Lefty has been spotted practicing at the nearby Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, and this video posted on Facebook shows the 5 time Major Champion trying out his famous backward shot…
Elsewhere, this week sees the start of the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Birkdale. World Number one and Defending Champion Stacey Lewis will start alongside England’s Charley Hull and Japan’s Ay-ako Ue-hara. Also in the field will be reigning U.S. Women’s Open Champion Michelle Wie, who’ll be seeking back to back Major wins this weekend.
And finally, Jack Nicklaus has given his backing to this year’s US Ryder Cup Captain Tom Watson. Golfing World caught up with the 18 time major winner, who assured us Tom will be well prepared for the challenge against Paul McGinley’s European side.
“Tom will make a great Captain, I think that the idea that Tom is going to come to Scotland and as popular as he is in Scotland, he’s still on the other side; if they think that’s going to make a difference from that side then I don’t think so. But Tom will do a good job, he’s very well respected by the players; he takes his job very seriously I know he’s played a lot of events this eyar to watch the young players. He’s making a real big project out of it. That’s ok. He’s taking it seriously and that’s ok. He’s got a great team and he’ll have a great competition”.
