Former Real Madrid striker Raul has spoken of the difficulties Messi will face when coming up against the Netherlands in the World Cup semifinals.
The Dutch have been on fine form so far this competition, seeing off Spain with an emphatic 5-1 victory in the group stages. Louis van Gaal's side have also seen off Australia, Chile and Mexico, whilst coming through on penalties against Costa Rica, showing just how strong they are and how much of a challenge they are going be for Messi and co.
Argentina have not been in such blistering form, often leaving it late to see off their opposition. They have been heavily reliant on their captain and talisman to fire them to this stage of the competition, but Raul seems to think that Netherlands will pose much more of a threat than Argentina have faced so far.
'They [Holland] will face Messi now, who won't have Angel Di Maria by his side. It's going to be a Himalayan task for the world's best player, to take his team to the final on his own,' Raul told the the Times of India, according Goal.com.
'The Belgians were able to somewhat contain him. There is only one way to do that. You have men around him in the middle third, so that he cannot start those incisive runs.'
Although he thinks that Messi has a massive challenge ahead of him, Raul believes that the challenge is not too great for the four-time Ballon D'or winner, and thinks that Messi can fire Argentina to a fifth World Cup final.
'One inspiring performance can change a team, like a certain Diego Maradona did in 1986. Messi is capable of doing that.'
