A professional player is not required to have a bulging torso if they hope to forge a successful career, although being in possession of rippling muscles does enable some to improve their own game.
But is there such a thing as spending too much time in the gym for a footballer?
Yes, would be the answer to that. Although strength can be an enormous help for some, all that matters ultimately is getting the ball into the net - and you can’t do that with your bicep. That is, quite simply, against the rules.
