Tottenham could be set for an audacious move for Arsenal target Julian Draxler, according to reports in Germany.
Two Gelsenkirchen newspapers have said that Schalke 04, Draxler's current employers, are bracing themselves for a £17million offer from Tottenham, as Mauricio Pochettino looks to kickstart a new era at White Hart Lane, according to Metro.
Draxler has been long linked with a move to the red half of north London and has previously revealed that he turned down a January move to the Emirates Stadium.
"In January, there was the offer of Arsenal, but I decided to stay. I will do the same this summer. I want to play one year more in Schalke," the youngster has admitted.
Spurs destined to fail?
That may mean that any Spurs offer will fail, and with a £38million release clause in his contract it may require Levy to double his initial offer. Although Tottenham appear well stocked for attacking midfielders, a player of Draxler's quality would be quite the coup, and a World Cup winners medal will only add to fans' excitement should the German join his compatriot Lewis Holtby at the Lane.
