Mario Mandzukic's move to Atletico Madrid is a done deal, according to Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer, as relayed by Sky Sports.
It has been no secret that the Croatian forward is on his way out of Allianz Arena, with Mandzukic confirming it himself earlier in the summer. The arrival of fellow striker Robert Lewandowski on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund meant that there would be much more competition for places next season, and several clubs were rumoured to be after the 6ft 2in front-man.
However, it appears that the La Liga champions have won the battle, with Sammer confirming that the two clubs had reached an agreement when speaking to German news agency, Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
"There is a verbal agreement between Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich, as well as between Atletico Madrid and Mario Mandzukic," Sammer revealed.
“Although nothing has been signed yet, I believe that we all will stay true to our words.”
The 28-year-old scored 33 goals in 54 Bundesliga games for the German champions, and Atletico fans will be hoping that he can bring that goalscoring form over to La Liga.
