Arsenal and Chelsea on standby as Sami Khedira rejects new deal

Published 2 Comments

Arsenal and Chelsea are set to move for German international Sami Khedira, after reports coming from Spanish paper El Confidencial, suggest the Real Madrid midfielder has refused a new deal with Los Blancos.

Arsenal and Chelsea interest

The news will send both Arsenal and Chelsea officials into overdrive in their attempt to land the player for a fee that is expected to be around £28 million.

One expects Arsenal to be favourites after having previously expressed an interested in the player and the fact that his international and former Real Madrid team-mate Mesut Ozil is now plying his trade at the Emirates.

There is a possibility Jose Mourinho will want to hijack the deal despite a wealth of midfield resources at his disposal which includes the recently acquired Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona, not to mention it was Mourinho that took him to Real from Stuttgart in 2010.

Khedira and Di Maria Real Madrid exit

With the imminent arrival of his brilliant international midfield partner from Bayern Munich, Toni Kroos, and comments made a few weeks back by manager Carlo Ancelotti stating that he would listen to offers for Khedira and Di Maria, it appears the 27-year old is ready for a new challenge.

Real Madrid manager Florentino Perez has also made it perfectly clear he wanted some liquidity back in the club and the potential sale of Angel Di Maria to either PSG or Manchester United for €60 million, the €22 million Juventus are paying Real Madrid for Alvaro Morata and the possible €30 million from the sale of Khedira will provide the Madrid giants exactly that.

Liquidity for Rodriguez deal

Perez will want to push the sale of both Di Maria and Khedira through as quickly as possible so they can pursue their marquee signing of the summer, Colombian superstar James Rodriguez.

Exactly the sort of player Arsenal fans want

Khedira was in sparkling form for Germany in their stunning 7-1 thrashing of hosts Brazil in their World Cup semi-final, scoring one and setting up two more, showcasing the fact that he has more to his game than a ball winning midfielder.

Arsenal fans will be excited about the prospects of the German international moving to the Emirates, he is exactly the sort of player Arsene Wenger has been searching for since the likes of Patrick Vera.

With the arrival of Alexis Sanchez, Wenger will have some serious quality at his disposal, that will without question be able to mount a challenge both domestically and in Europe.
