Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has been uncharacteristically forthright in his views after agreeing to put his name to a weekly World Cup column with Irish bookmaker Paddy Power over the past two months.
In his penultimate blog which was published on Tuesday, the former Red Devils midfielder revealed that he was excited about what new manager Louis van Gaal would bring to the Premier League next season, before predicting the outcome of this week's semi-final clashes in Brazil.
Scholes correctly forecast that Holland v Argentina would be decided by a penalty shootout and also called Germany's win against the host nation - he's forgiven for failing to foresee the manner in which Big Phil Scolari's side were beaten!
In addition to registering his score predictions, the 39-year-old was asked to pick his team of the tournament, which culminated in an all-star cast of players the Manchester United favourite admitted he would love to have at Old Trafford.
After a disastrous seventh place finish in the league in 2013/14 - and with it failure to qualify for Europe - there will be expectations of a significant improvement on the level of performances seen last year.
Van Gaal has already moved to strengthen his squad with the captures of Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao and Luke Shaw from Southampton, and will be looking to make one or two more marquee acquisitions between now and the close of the transfer window.
A number of Scholes's World Cup best XI have been linked with a possible move to Manchester United this summer.
