Manchester United offer
Manchester United made a formal approach for Khedira in their quest for midfield reinforcements last summer, but Real Madrid president Florentino Perez chose to rebuff this €40 million offer given the high regard in which the player was held.
But Perez has become exasperated with Khedira, as El Confidencial reports, with the 27-year-old refusing to sign a new contract despite Real Madrid’s desire to keep him - a situation that has been compared to that of Toni Kroos at Bayern Munich.
Bayern have agreed to the sale of Kroos, with Madrid his destination, having failed to commit him to a new deal, and it would appear Khedira may have been learning lessons from his international colleague.
Another blow for David Moyes
Real Madrid are now prepared to sanction the transfer of Khedira to avoid losing him for nothing in 12 months, and this news will arrive as yet another significant blow for David Moyes.
The former Manchester United manager endured an awful maiden transfer window at Old Trafford, failing to land numerous marquee midfield targets and ending the summer with only Marouane Fellaini added to his squad.
A year on and Moyes is no longer in his position, replaced by Louis van Gaal, and the derided Scot has seen a Manchester United far more effective in the transfer market following his departure.
Several transfer misses
Ander Herrera, a player Moyes had hoped to sign, became the first acquisition of the Van Gaal era, while Toni Kroos and Cesc Fabregas, two other targets, are both set to complete notable transfers - and neither to Old Trafford.
Manchester United have also been credited with a renewed approach for Khedira, and his proposed move to the club will serve to reinforce just how desperately unfortunate Moyes was during his brief tenure.

Arsenal the leading contenders
Arsenal, though, remain the leading contenders to complete the signing of Khedira before the transfer deadline, and Arsene Wenger is already reported to have submitted a €30 million bid for the World Cup finalist.
However, Khedira’s alleged wage demands could be the death knell for the prospective deal with the former Stuttgart player supposed to have requested an enormous €10 million-per-season.
