Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has targeted Celtic and England goalkeeper Fraser Forster as his recruitment drive hits full steam ahead of the new season.
It is reported by the Daily Mirror that the Dutch legend, who took over as Southampton manager following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham, has targeted the keeper as his top choice in that position.
The south-coast outfit also have an ace up their sleeve with their attempts to lure Forster away from Celtic Park in the form of England goalkeeping coach Dave Watson.
Watson recently joined Koeman's newly formed coaching team at St.Mary's and it is thought that his relationship with Forster could prove to be pivotal in the deal.
Forster, who would have to turn his back on Champions League football should he choose to move across the border, has had his fair share of rumours this summer with Benfica and Tottenham also credited with an interest.
Koeman to strengthen squad
With a budget of up to £70million at his disposal following the departures of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw in the past few weeks, Koeman has set about strengthening his squad as soon as possible.
A fee of around £8million has been mooted, and with Forster only 26, he will have many years ahead of him at the top level.
His recent call-up to England's World Cup squad outlined just how good Forster is and can be, and with his huge 6ft 7in frame, he makes a daunting opponent for any striker who bares down upon him.
Could Forster displace Boruc?
Artur Boruc is currently Southampton's number one and has developed into something of a fan's favourite due to his somewhat relaxed demeanour, but with Kelvin Davis and rookie Paulo Gazzaniga in reserve, it seems the Dutch legend has targeted a new goalkeeper as a priority.
Celtic have already signed up Craig Gordon this summer as boss Ronny Deila prepares for his first campaign in charge of the Scottish Champions, and it may well be as Forster's replacement.
Fans of the Scottish giants might be hoping that another of their key players doesn't leave for Southampton, following Victor Wanyama's move last summer, and with Virgil van Dijk also linked to the Saints, there could be plenty of communication between the two club's during the summer transfer window.
