SummerSlam is the biggest part of the summer, as it's the second biggest pay-per-view of the year. And this year it has the added incentive that WWE will be hoping fans renew their subscriptions to the WWE Network, so they will want to make the show as epic as possible.
There are already rumours of former Women's Champion Stephanie McMahon stepping back into the ring for one last match, a defining career match against Brie Bella and the Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar going one on one with the 15 time World Champion John Cena but the shocks don't end there.
WWE have taken CM Punk out of every promotion since January and only Paul Heyman and Seth Rollins have truly mentioned him on WWE TV. The company itself has remained tight-lipped about him and if he really has retired but it seems this week will be the defining week.
CM Punk's contract ends at some point in the next week as we finish the lead up to Battleground and for some reason WWE is releasing a network show that features him, despite the fact that they have spent the last six months erasing him from every WWE montage ever made.
This could be for two reasons, either WWE are trying to give CM Punk some sort of initiative to come back to the WWE just like his wife did early last week, by putting him back into the picture and promoting him again. Or WWE are reminding fans that he is still out there (Not that they need to) and could be set for a big return, although the last thing WWE want to do is announce his return like Batista's. If he's coming back, it needs to be a shock!
What bigger way to ensure you renew your network subscription than "the best in the world" appearing unannounced at SummerSlam rested and better than ever?
This would be six months after he initially left at the Royal Rumble giving him plenty of recovery time and it would be something WWE fans wouldn't see coming especially with the way they have already planned next years big events to not include him.
Either way expect shocks and surprises on August 17th because when WWE want to promote something, they don't do it by halves. They will put on a show like no other and if you thought the streak ending back in April was a shock, then fasten your seatbelt because SummerSlam will be a roller-coaster.
