Liverpool captain and legend Steven Gerrard has taken to his instagram account to emotionally thank Luis Suarez for his service to the Merseyside club after his imminent move to Spain.
Liverpool on Friday released a statement saying they had agreed to sell Suarez to Catalan giants Barcelona, with the fee believed to be around the £75m mark
The statement read: 'Liverpool FC confirms that Luis Suarez will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona. The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities, which will then conclude the transfer.'
'We would like to thank Luis for his contribution and the role he played in helping bring Champions League football back to Anfield.'
'Everyone at Liverpool Football Club wishes Luis and his family well for the future.'
Gerrard wrote: 'On an emotional day for me would just like to say what a pleasure it has been playing with an amazing talent such as Luis.'
'I would like to thank him for his outstanding contribution on the pitch during his time @liverpoolfc and to wish him and his family all the best on his new adventure in Spain. #lfclegend'
Suarez made a massive impact at Anfield, scoring 82 goals in 133 appearances for the the reds across all competitions. He helped Liverpool to a league cup victory in 2012 and won the Premier League Golden Boot award in the 2013/14 season with 31 goals.
The 27-year-old has also played in the Eredivisie for Ajax, scoring 111 goals in 159 appearances for the dutch club, prompting Liverpool to splash out £22.8m for the Uruguay International back in the January transfer window of 2011.
Suarez will wear the number 9 shirt for Barcelona, a shirt previously worn by new Arsenal acquisition Alexis Sanchez.
