Three Dutch stars could follow Louis van Gaal to Manchester United this summer, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The report has suggested that the likes of Daley Blind, Stefan De Vrijs and Bruno Martins Indi are all on the radar of the new Red Devils boss. The trio all starred under Van Gaal for the Dutch in Brazil, as the national side finished in third place in the tournament.
It appears that the new Red Devils boss could step up his transfer pursuit of major targets as he looks set to take over at Old Trafford on a permanent basis on Wednesday. With the World Cup now at an end, the new United chief will be desperate to get to work at the Theatre of Dreams, with the 2014/15 Premier League season just over one month away.
It remains to be seen, however, as to whether the Dutchman will press ahead with a move for the likes of Blind and Co in the near future.
As mentioned, all three Dutchman that have taken Van Gaal's interest enjoyed a fine World Cup tournament. Martins Indi, who is currently at Feyenoord, is just 22-years-old, and helped the Dutch to a number of clean sheets in the tournament.
Much like Martins Indi, De Vrijs is also a defender and aged 22, meaning the pair could help improve the Red Devils' back-line ahead of the new campaign. Daley Blind, meanwhile, is slightly more versatile, but could slot in at left-back for Van Gaal's side.
It's not surprising that Manchester United have been linked with a number of defenders, after experienced duo Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand departed the club at the end of last season. It also appears likely that French international Patrice Evra is going to leave the club for Juventus, whilst Alex Buttner has already left the club.
This, then, means United are considerably short of defensive options, despite the fact that the club have already purchased teenage full-back Luke Shaw from Southampton. With the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans set to fight it out for the centre-back position next season, United fans will be hoping for at least one or two more signings in the back-line.
Despite a number of top names having left Old Trafford, United fans will certainly be excited by the imminent arrival of Louis van Gaal. The Dutchman impressed the public throughout the World Cup with the Netherlands and could make a major impact at The Theatre of Dreams next term.
Van Gaal's busy summer looks set to continue over the coming weeks, as he prepares his new side for the new season. Under the new regime, the Red Devils will be desperate to get back into Europe at the first attempt.
