The Chilean has emerged as Manchester United's top target this summer as they look to complete a squad overhaul following a disastrous league campaign last time round. New boss Louis van Gaal is said to have been handed a huge transfer kitty in order to get them back amongst the big time.
It seems as though the Dutchman views Vidal as the man to help him do just that, and it has been reported that Manchester United were in talks over a £40 million deal for the 27-year-old.
However according to ESPN, Juventus are holding out for more than £45 million for their star midfielder before the consider selling up. It had also previously been claimed that out-of-favour winger Nani could be used as a makeweight in the deal, although that now doesn't appear to be an option.
Vidal himself may play a key role in forcing a move to Manchester United, and appears to have already put pressure on his club to sell. He has already hinted that he could be open to a move to Old Trafford this summer, although he intends to take a break following his participation at the World Cup before making any decisions.
He told reporters: "I've heard the rumours but I'm not going to talk about it. I'm enjoying my holidays and when I get back to Italy I'll see what happens.
"I am very relaxed and all of us would like to be in one of the best teams in the world."
Along with chasing a deal for Vidal this summer, Manchester United are said to be in the market for Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria, although the latest batch of reports suggest that he could turn down a switch in favour of a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Elsewhere they've been linked with Borussia Dortmund pair Mats Hummels and Marco Reus. Manchester United defender Patrice Evra is close to joining Juventus despite recently signing a new contract, an it is believed that deal could pave the way for Vidal to head to Old Trafford.
