Manchester United and Chelsea could be gearing up for a huge transfer battle over Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani after the striker asked his agent to explore a potential move to the Premier League according to Sky Sports.
Cavani joined the Ligue 1 giants in deal worth around £55 million last year, and while his goal record is more than respectable - he managed 16 league goals in 30 games - it's claimed he's grown tired of playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and is seeking a move.
Manchester United and Chelsea interest
The 27-year-old still has four years left on his deal at the Parc des Prince but wants out already, and that could see either Manchester United or Chelsea pounce. According to Sky Sports, Cavani has told his agent to investigate the possibility of a move to the Premier League.
Whether there is a spot for him at either Manchester United or Chelsea remains unclear. It was claimed earlier this week that the Red Devils had scheduled talks with the former Napoli man's representatives. He could cost upwards of £60 million.
However Wayne Rooney penned a huge new contract at Old Trafford recently, while Robin van Persie's place seems assured with countryman Louis van Gaal coming in to take charge.
The striker appears open to a move to Manchester United however, and hinted over a possible transfer to Old Trafford during the World Cup.
"In football, you never know. Anything can happen," he said. "One day you are in one team and, the next day, you can be in another."
Chelsea would seem a more logical option for the Uruguayan. The Blues appear in need of more options in attack despite the fact that Diego Costa will soon arrive at Stamford Bridge as part of a £32 million deal.
Samuel Eto'o has departed the club while Demba Ba and Fernando Torres failed to fire last season, so Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will certainly be interested in adding firepower to his front line.
