Tottenham centre-half Jan Vertonghen is subject to increased interest from Spanish giants Barcelona, who are reportedly interested in launching a £17.5 million bid for the Belgium international's services.
According to the London Evening Standard, the versatile defender is supposedly a target for a number of clubs, following on from recent quotes by his agent Mustapha Nakhli.
'Several teams are interested in Jan," he told Belgian media. "I cannot confirm or deny whether Barcelona are one of them.
"Tottenham is not a small club. It’s too soon to give them an answer. Several clubs have registered their interest in Jan. We’ll see."
The Camp Nou outfit are looking to shore up their defensive line in an attempt to regain the La Liga title, and have targeted the Spurs star to help them with their efforts.
One of Vertonghen's key traits is his versatility, often being deployed in the full-back position for his country, although he insists that his preferred position is at centre-half.
Vertonghen's performances earned him a spot in the PFA team of the year in his debut season at White Hart Lane, and earning him a spot in the heart's of the Spurs faithful.
After this promising start to his career in north London, an ankle injury kept him out of the majority of the 2013/14 season, yet a full recovery was made, earning himself a spot in he Belgian World Cup squad in Brazil.
Barcelona seem convinced that Vertonghen is the right man to sort out their defensive worries, and will be hoping a deal can be struck and personal terms agreed sooner rather than later.
