After months and months of speculation and rumours floating around online, the inevitable has finally occurred and Sting will be appearing in the WWE.
Well, for now it will be inside a virtual WWE ring as Michael Cole confirmed on Monday Night Raw that Sting will officially be a pre-order exclusive for the upcoming WWE 2K15 video game which will now also be available on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
The rumours surrounding a Sting appearance have been appearing every single years for almost the last decade now, but it looks as if 2014 is the year it could officially happen as the WWE have moved one step closer to getting The Icon inside a WWE ring.
The announcement for his appearance in the video game came about when Sting broke his Twitter silence on his official account last week; where he Tweeted an image of his full face with the face paint, followed by ’07.14.14’ hinting to last night’s Monday Night Raw.
There were a lot of rumours as to what this was rumour was going to result in, it was definitely a WWE link but it was thought it could simply be a DVD announcement which is in the works. Other rumours included an actual appearance on WWE television which did seem unlikely but there were plenty of chances for Sting to appear.
At first it was thought he could have an angle with Ric Flair, a potential General Manager role or even have some sort of impact on the main event. But is now confirmed that we will be able to play as Sting towards the end of the year.
In the last few months we did break news that a casting agency was looking for Sting lookalikes, looking for a Sting body double as they requested men aged 38-50 who were at least 6’2” and 250lbs of pure muscle.
They also requested an orchestra who could wear full face paint; and it was strongly linked to a DVD; but as you can see on the official teaser trailer above which was shown live on Monday Night Raw, the orchestra was in fact for the WWE 2K15 Sting teaser trailer; and it looks fantastic, and will give the Sting fans definite goosebumps. I highly doubt this will be the last Sting trailer we will see.
The WWE weren’t happy when the casting calls were leaked online, and rumours surfaced again that Sting will join the WWE. Right now, Sting has not signed a deal with the company which is why we didn’t hear the commentators mention Sting but it is seen as a formality that Sting will sign a deal with company and that contract will require him to work one match, most likely at WrestleMania 31.
At WrestleMania XXX Sting revealed on a panel that ’31 was his new favourite number’ strongly hinting to an appearance, but if this trailer is anything to go by then just wait because Sting should appear on your television sets very soon.
