Over the past number of months, we have seen a lot of superstars and divas show some of the best work they have ever done in the WWE.
The guys like Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose are proving to be great singles competitors, which is expected after their decorated independent careers, whilst Cesaro is still a massive hit.
However, there are a number of talents that still have a lot to prove before they go down as some of the best and successful competitors amongst the roster.
Right now they are all doing a great job, but it all depends on whether they can continue it in the long run, sometimes a push goes a long way and superstars are very successful, and other times they can end up being a big flop and the fans never let that go, jokes go on for years in the WWE.
So, as we’re past the halfway mark this year here are the five superstars I believe still have the most to prove.
We’ve seen the rise of Roman Reigns for a while now and now he is beginning to solidify himself as a top main eventer in the company. For a while now many fans believed Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins carried Reigns and they do have an argument. Rollins and Ambrose have had successful careers before the WWE; the only thing Reigns had was an unsuccessful football career.
But now Reigns has grown into a brilliant superstar, he’s in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship picture and he is set for a blockbuster year. But of course you have to be wary, Reigns might not go over as the mega star the WWE want, you can’t predict which superstar will flourish and which will fail. Right now Reigns looks to be doing a good job, he still has a lot to prove, if he proves himself as a legitimate main eventer even past his current feuds, then he will be very successful.
I don’t think Paige’s Divas Championship run went as well as the WWE hoped it would be. It’s not entirely her fault, she’s young and it’s a big jump from NXT to the main roster, especially if you’re going to defeat AJ Lee for the Divas Championship the night after WrestleMania; it was always going to be a tough ask.
Paige still has age on her side, at only 21 Paige could have a very long and successful career in the divas division. Her first run as champion wasn’t great but her inevitable second run needs to be. She has a lot to prove and needs to do it quick if she is to leave a lasting impact in the divas division.
Rusev is an interesting one, Rusev and Lana gain nuclear heat whenever they are inside the ring and that is exactly what they need right now. Rusev is a brilliant in-ring worker, Lana doesn’t get the credit she deserves on the microphone and the combination works. The only problem with Rusev is how long he can keep this gimmick up, and how long can he keep it relevant.
There’s no denying that it’s entertaining, they’re supposed to be getting boo’s and they’re doing it better than most heels. But once Jack Swagger is out of the picture, what next? Just how many Americans need to step up before the anti-American, Russophillic gimmick grows old, stale and makes him irrelevant? Creative needs to come up with something interesting for Rusev to fulfil his potential, hopefully he isn’t limited to this gimmick and thrown t the end of the line.
Jack Swagger is now competing as a face with Zeb Colter and I believe this is a perfect move to freshen Swagger up a little, especially after a lengthy run as a heel. He is the perfect opponent for Rusev and will get the best out of him; but Swagger and Colter will definitely need to keep the momentum going if they are to remain popular faces.
If Swagger can compete as a face successfully after the Rusev feud, then he shouldn’t worry about it, but if he can’t then he is back to square one and will remain a limited superstar.
First off, the gimmick change for Bo Dallas has worked wonders, he embraced the ‘Bo-ring’ chants and has turned it into something special, fans are now growing to like him even though he is a heel. Right now it is understandable that he doesn’t suit a big name feud and will continue to establish himself as a serious competitor on the main roster.
But Bo Dallas still has a lot to prove, he needs to make sure he continues to keep things the way they are going and then enter a big name feud and ensure that he becomes a top superstar. If he fails to capitalise on his current situation and popularity, then he can kiss a main event spot goodbye.
