Bulls get their man

However, one team had foregone the idea of Melo prior to the weekend and already stolen the heart of Gasol. This is the Chicago Bulls. For years the Bulls have tried acquiring the veteran big man, but consistently failed to pry him away from the Los Angeles Lakers. Finally, however it looks like the Bulls have got their man.

Gasol wanted a chance to compete again before he was too old to significantly contribute to a teams success. The Lakers had offered him a two year 22 million dollar contract, but he rejected it in hopes of signing with a competitor.

Tough decision

His decision boiled down to the Bulls and the San Antonio Spurs, two of the premier franchises with arguable to two best coaches in the NBA. After a few days worth of rumors the news broke via Pau's twitter account, where he tweeted:

"It hasn't been easy. After meditating it a lot I've chosen to play with the Chicago Bulls. Looking forward to this new chapter of my career."

On his website he expressed his gratitude to the Lakers organization and his former teammates, but views his next step in Chicago as a great opportunity.

Contract details

After repeatedly asking Melo to take a paycut, the Bulls have found their star who would, in Gasol. He left about three to four million dollars on the table each year, but has been given a third year player option on a three year $22 million deal. It's a fair deal for both sides, that leaves the Bulls with the financial flexibility to add another player to increase their depth.

Expectations are rising in Chicago with the addition of an experienced veteran big man, Pau Gasol.
