Manchester United's move for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal is hanging in the balance, according to The Daily Star.
The report has suggested that this is because the Red Devils only value the Chilean midfielder at £25 million, whilst Juventus are holding out for as much as £35m for hie services.
It has been suggested that new United boss Louis van Gaal instructed chief executive Ed Woodward to land the Juventus superstar after replacing David Moyes as the manager of the club.
Vidal is one of the leading players in world football, having proven his credentials in the Serie A and the World Cup in recent time, and it's no surprise that Van Gaal has identified the 27-year-old as the man he wants at the Theatre of Dreams next term.
That's because United are in desperate need of improvement in the midfield area, having struggled in the middle of the park throughout the David Moyes era. The likes of Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher and Tom Cleverley all struggled to find consistency, whilst Belgian international Marouane Fellaini failed to impress in his debut season at Old Trafford.
Van Gaal has, however, already added to his squad in the midfield, having secured the services of highly rated Spanish ace Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao. The midfielder will offer United another option in midfield, and will look to help the club dominate football matches through keeping possession.
The 24-year-old looks set to play a key role under Van Gaal next season, but United are seemingly still intent on further improving. The midfield area has been a problem for United for some time now, and it's been recognised that the Red Devils are in need of a tough tackling box-to-box type player.
However, it certainly won't be easy for United to secure the services of Vidal, and it has been indicated that Van Gaal and Co. will look elsewhere if they miss out on the Chilean star. It remains to be seen as to whether the new regime have any other targets in mind, but United's busy summer looks set to continue over the coming month before the start of the Premier League season.
