Floyd Mayweather goes a little crazy when he starts promoting one of his fights and he tends to say some insane things. Just take his comments this week for instance. The boxing champion said his opponent should bet on himself and he also claimed he didn't know who Ronda Rousey is.
Now we all know that the latter comment about Rousey is just a pack of lies. Of course he knows who the Women's Bantamweight Champion is. After all, she's been arguably the UFC's most popular fighter in terms of interest for so long.
Mayweather was asked about the UFC fighter and in response he made the absurd claim that he didn't know who she is. "I don't even know who he is," Mayweather explained.
It's just insane to think that Mayweather doesn't know who Rousey is. Obviously he is just lying yet again, and it's just another one of his clever media spins to get people talking about him leading up to his next fight. It's working as well.
But it seems UFC boss Dana White doesn't think Mayweather's comments are all that surprising. It is not that White is claiming the comments are valid or acceptable to say, it's just that he doesn't expect anything else from Mayweather.
"What's Floyd going to say? That's a lose-lose situation for Floyd," White responded. "For him to even acknowledge that he knows who Ronda is, and that she could possibly beat him in a fight, ya know, that's what I'd expect him to say."
This is a clear example of White showing his disdain for Mayweather and his comments. But UFC's boss is too clever to fall into one of Mayweather's media traps.
The quote 'that's what I'd expect him to say' is White ultimately saying that he expects Mayweather to say such controversial and potentially offensive things.
Rousey v Mayweather
The question on many people's lips still is who would win in a fight between Rousey and Mayweather? The boxing champion has already avoided the question, but earlier this year Ronda revealed what her approach to such a fight would be.
"I would crawl over to him as fast as I can. I wouldn't stay up and let him hit me," Rousey explained.
It's unlikely that Mayweather would fight Rousey because like with most scenarios, he's too smart to put himself in the firing line.
