Just when it seemed that Patrice Evra’s departure from Manchester United had been well and truly confirmed, a spanner has been thrown into the works by the most unlikely of sources.
Evra move in doubt?
Antonio Conte’s shock decision to vacate his post as Juventus manager will likely instigate a raft of changes, but perhaps the biggest could be the fact that Evra will no longer join.
According to well-respected Sky Italia journalist Gianluca di Marzio the 33-year-old can still back out of the deal, and is now taking the time to wait until a new manager has been announced before pledging his future to the Serie A champions.
Whilst it remains highly likely that he will still leave United the France international could well end up opting to sign for someone else.
Following the arrival of Luke Shaw it stands to reason that there is no longer a place for Evra at Old Trafford on the left-hand side of the defence. Louis van Gaal's career shows that he has favoured youth in the past, and so won't be afraid to give the 19-year-old a shot.
As such the only way for Evra to continue playing at the highest level is to move on to pastures new, though with his move to Juventus in doubt any number of sides could battle it out for his signature. Inter Milan have in the past been credited with interest and could re-ignite their efforts to lure him to the San Siro, though with Massimo Allegri reportedly already in the Juve hot-seat there may be no cause for concern. Only time will tell.
Vidal move off
And whilst on the subject of Juve we thought we’d give you a little update to the case concerning Arturo Vidal.
Once more Conte’s exit throws a question mark over whether or not the club will be prepared to let him go, though it also remains to be seen if Louis van Gaal will even sign him if given the chance.
Reports yesterday claimed the Dutchman doesn’t want to pay the £32million that the Italian giants are expecting, and will instead turn to Roma’s Kevin Strootman if the midfielder can prove he’s shrugged off his injury.
However certain rumours claim that Vidal's agent is still in contact with Old Trafford chiefs in an attempt to engineer a move for his client, regardless of the fact that the player himself admitted he doesn't mind if a deal comes to fruition or not. Once again, only time will provide an answer to the question on most United fans' minds.
