It's the news that all Manchester United fans have been dreading; it seems their deal to sign Arturo Vidal from Juventus has fallen through.
The dynamic Chilean has emerged as the Red Devils' top target in recent weeks, with rumours spreading like wildfire that he could be the man to spearhead the Louis van Gaal revolution.
Indeed some media outlets were reporting that the deal was all but done. Now however, it seems all but dead.
Days after a slew of reports claimed that Manchester United had pulled out of the race for the 27-year-old, Juventus today were adamant that he's not for sale anyway.
"Vidal is not for sale, he is one of the most important players in the squad," chief executive Giuseppe Marotta told reporters today. "Vidal is happy to be here."
The combination of those two factors seem to hint at the fact that negotiations between the two clubs didn't go well at all and that the plug has been pulled. That leaves Manchester United with something of a quandary; they need a top-class midfielder but with Vidal out of the picture, who could they go for?
Well, luckily for Van Gaal, he can give his scouting team the weekend off, because we've done all the leg work and found five stars capable of doing the job.
