Newcastle United took on Oldham Athletic in their first pre-season game of the summer.
The Magpies visited Athletic before their trip to New Zealand and travelling fans could get a first glimpse of some of Newcastle's summer signings.
Ayoze Perez, Siem de Jong and Jack Colback all featured in what was their first outing in a Newcastle United shirt.
The game came after a busy few days for Newcastle, who have tied up Remy Cabella from Montpellier and look set to unveil Dutch full-back Daryl Janmaat whom played exceptionally well for the Netherlands during the World Cup, helping them to a 3rd place finish.
Although the game ended up 2-1 to the home side, there was one positive for Newcastle and their fans. New signing Siem De Jong, who was given the role of club co-captain earlier this week scored an outstanding goal from outside the box which will bring both joy and hope for the upcoming season.
WATCH THE GOAL HERE
The 25-year-old can operate either as an attacking-midfielder or as a striker, and had an exceptional record for previous club Ajax, where the Dutchman managed to score 57 goals in 168 league games.
When fit, De Jong averaged around 12 league goals a season which was only two goals behind Newcastle's top goal scorer last season, Loic Remy who is unlikely to return next campaign.
This is a player Newcastle is desperate for, a huge shortage in goals for the club last campaign saw the club drop to 10th in the table which doesn't seem so bad, but it could have been a lot better.
I truly expect Newcastle to have a good finish next season. Some great signings have been made and rumours are stating Monaco striker Emmanuel Riviere will be signing for the Premier League side this week which could too help with in the goals department.
