As always tends to the case in a World Cup year, multiple questionable transfer rumours have surfaced recently, connecting low-profile players with high-profile clubs.

Now we've got nothing against an unheard of player making his name in the game, or the occasional diamond in the ruff who manages to carve a niche for himself by being a surprise arrival on the world stage.

However we reckon we're pretty good at separating those from the pretenders; the ones who aren't good enough to be playing for the best teams yet continually seem to be linked with them.

Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham all find themselves linked with potentially suspect moves for players who really wouldn't do them any good in the long run. Here, we highlight some of the more bizarre transfer rumours to have surfaced in recent weeks.
