Manchester City will target a move for Everton's Ross Barkley if Yaya Toure leaves this summer according to the Daily Mail - putting them on collision course with Manchester United.
The youngster has emerged as one of the most promising youngsters in the country, and his displays at Goodison Park last season earned him a spot in Roy Hodgson's England squad for the World Cup in Brazil.
His efforts last term appeared to catch they eye of some of the Premier League's big boys, in particular Manchester United who at that point had former Everton boss David Moyes at the helm. Since the Scot's departure earlier this year speculation has died down somewhat, however it was claimed last month that they still hold an interest in the 20-year-old.
Now though the Daily Mail are reporting that Manchester City have entered the race for his services, and could make move for him if Toure does indeed leave the club this summer.
The Ivorian appears to be angling for a move away from the Etihad Stadium, having accused the club of forgetting his birthday and denying him the chance to visit his brother before he passed away prior to the World Cup.
Toure has previously been linked with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United, but a move to Paris Saint-Germain seems much more likely given the Ligue 1 giant's interest.
The Daily Mail say that although Manchester City remain confident that they won't have to sell up, if it does come to that then Barkley is one of the chief candidates to replace the former Barcelona man.
The paper adds that Everton are likely to hold out for a fee in excess of £50 million, and will resist any attempts to lure him from Goodison Park up until that point.
Manchester United Overhaul
While Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is looking to fine tune his squad this summer, new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is said to be planning a major overhaul in order to revive their fortunes.
Under Moyes they finished 7th last season and Van Gaal has already stated that it is his plan to challenge for the title this season. In order to do that he's said to be looking at a host of new players, including Arturo Vidal and Angel di Maria. Whether he is interested in Barkley remains unknown.
