Premier League champions Manchester City are set to make a move for Colombian superstar Radamel Falcao, according to The Express.
The report has suggested that the Citizens, who have already completed deals to bring Eliaquim Mangala and Fernando to the club, have identified Falcao as the man they want to boost their attack for the 2014/15 campaign.
The striker, who missed this summer's World Cup because of a knee injury, is recognised as one of the leading forwards in world football, having only joined Ligue 1 money bags Monaco in the summer of 2013.
It appears, however, that he wants out of France, and a move to the Premier League could now be on the cards for the forward. This is despite it previously looking likely that he would return to Madrid in this transfer window.
Reports had indicated that Real - not his former club Atletico - were intent on landing him in this market, but it appears a move to the Bernabeu has stalled amid speculation the club want to land James Rodriguez.
However, City may still face a transfer battle from a number of England's elite clubs, as they attempt to tie up the Falcao deal. It appears that the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool are also interested in the striker, but it remains to be seen as to whether any of the clubs step up their interest in the star.
Chelsea, however, have already landed Spanish international Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid, but Mourinho may want to further increase his options in attack ahead of the 2014/15 season.
Liverpool will also be desperate to improve ahead of the new season, and will be looking for someone to replace Uruguayan superstar Luis Suarez, who joined Spanish giants Barcelona. The Reds have already completed the signing of Rickie Lambert in attack, but may want to land a marquee name this summer.
Manchester United's focus
And it appears that Manchester United, who have also been credited with interest in Falcao, are currently more focussed on landing Cavani in this window. The PSG forward, who has been rated at around £60 million, may well be on his way to Louis van Gaal's side in this window.
With United seemingly intent on landing Cavani, it appears that City are in pole position to sign Falcao. It certainly looks set to be a busy couple of months or so for the Premier League big-boys.
