Manchester United plan to hold talks with Dutch agents at a Manchester hotel to clarify potential transfer targets, according to The Daily Mail.

The report has indicated that both Arsenal star Thomas Vermaelen and Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman are on new United boss Louis van Gaal's radar, however it appears that the Dutchman could look at bringing other names to Old Trafford in this transfer window.

Talks

It appears, then, that the new regime at Old Trafford are ready to start identifying more potential targets ahead of the 2014/15 campaign. It remains uncertain, however, as to whether the Manchester United hierarchy will be speaking with Dutch agents over players who worked under Van Gaal at this summer's World Cup.

His Dutch squad certainly proved their credentials in Brazil after securing a third place finish in the World Cup, and United fans will be hoping the club can land at least one Dutchman in this window.

Strootman

Kevin Strootman, despite not appearing at this summer World cup because of injury, is a well known Van Gaal favourite, and it appears that the new United boss could make a move for the Serie A star when he regains his fitness. Manchester United are certainly in need of help in the middle of the park, as the likes of Tom Cleverley and Marouane Fellaini struggled in the last campaign.

The Red Devils have, however, already completed a deal to bring Spanish star Ander Herrera to the club. The former Athletic Bilbao star will certainly improve United's options in the midfield are. One sour note for the new United boss, however, is that Michael Carrick has been ruled out of action with a long term injury, meaning Van Gaal may have to move quickly this summer.

Vermaelen

Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen also seems to be a player that the new Red Devils boss rates highly. The Belgian international, who struggled at this summer's World Cup because of injury, has rarely featured for the Gunners in recent time.

And, after the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic departed the club at the end of last season, it appears the new United chief is ready to add an experienced head to his back-line.
