WWE Battleground takes place this Sunday from Tampa Bay Times Forum in Tampa Bay, Florida with John Cena defending his WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event.
The card boasts seven matches barring any last minute additions, and hopefully it can live up to its potential.
The highly anticipated matches include a clash between Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins, Chris Jericho takes on Bray Wyatt, the Intercontinental Championship is on the line in a 20-man over the top rope battle royal whilst John Cena defends his WWE World Heavyweight Championship in a fatal way match, where he is up against Kane, Randy Orton and Roman Reigns.
Here are our predictions for the Battleground pay-per-view.
Cameron vs. Naomi
It looks as if we’re being treated to two divas matches on the same night once again, but not something to really look forward to. It’s a match which will make Naomi look strong and continue this feud, nothing major on the line but don’t be surprised to see Cameron pick up an early win in this feud, but we believe Naomi will walk out the victor.
Jack Swagger vs. Rusev
This is Rusev’s biggest test yet and as a big fan of Rusev I definitely hope he picks up a win because he can be a legitimate threat to the real main eventers in the WWE roster, the only thing holding him back is just how far can his Russophillic gimmick go, he has the perfect opponent in Jack Swagger who I hope has a great match for himself and solidify himself as a face. Saying that, I expect a tough, back and forth match; it will be Rusev’s biggest test but one he will pass, I believe Rusev will win this match.
Fellow GiveMeSport WWE Lead Writer Phillipa Hopwood shares a similar view: The one match I really want Swagger to win, I feel like WWE are forcing Rusev on us right now and it’s getting old and boring, I think Rusev will win this but Swagger will put up the fight of his life.
WWE Tag Team Championships: The Usos © vs. Luke Harper and Erick Rowan
An interesting match-up here as a tag team match isn’t usually that hard to pick a winner, but the fact that the 2-out-of-3 falls stipulation has been added it really can go either way. I personally believe The Usos are better championship chasers than they are defenders so I would like to see that again and I would also like to see Rowan and Harper hold the gold for a while. With The Ascension still lurking in the shadows and ready to pounce on the main roster any time now, I believe The Usos will retain their Tag Team Championships.
Phillipa: Jimmy and Jey will pull it out of the bag again, like most two out of three falls matches this will go to a draw and then Jimmy or Jey will hit the Samoan Splash for the win to retain the titles they have fought so hard for.

WWE Divas Championship: AJ Lee © vs. Paige
It’s pretty straightforward how this will play out, Paige will turn heel once AJ Lee retains her championships. The positive here is that both women can wrestle so we should be in for a good match compared to the two short matches we have seen, I believe AJ Lee will defeat Paige and retain her championship.
Phillipa: This is a forgone conclusion, AJ can’t drop the belt again weeks after she returns, I’ll give it to her, Paige is good but she’s not quite AJ Lee standard. AJ Lee will retain in what will be a strange-friend type of match.
Bray Wyatt vs. Chris Jericho
This is the match I am looking forward to the most, as a big Bray Wyatt fan from his Husky Harris days to this phenomenon he has created, mixing in with Jericho is just perfect for the fans. We already know that it is almost certain that the two will meet again at SummerSlam next month, and I think a loss would hurt Bray Wyatt here more than it would Jericho – who already has no issue going over to younger, exciting talent. So I believe Bray Wyatt will defeat Chris Jericho to set up their second clash.
Phillipa: Much like above, this is another forgone conclusion, Chris likes to come back and put people over, it’s time for Wyatt to shine and Jericho will put on a show! Bray will win this but I’m not sure that this will be the end of it. Rematch at SummerSlam?
Intercontinental Championship: 20-man Battle Royal
Who doesn’t love a good battle royal? Especially when a vacant championship is on the line so expect all of the competitors to put on a good show. Not everyone can win whilst some stars such as The Great Khali are just filling up spots; in my mind this match could go one of three ways. We can have the obvious and go with Cesaro capturing the championship to make him a top star as he continues his rise to the main event scene. Another popular choice is United States Champion Sheamus unifying both belts which he has been teasing, but an out-of-the-box pick I am going with, something I would like to happen more than the possibility of it actually happening is Bo Dallas I think giving him the strap will keep it fresh, keep him entertaining and a genuine threat; a champion who can keep hold of the gold for a while; plus with Bad News Barrett handing over the gold it could be interesting.
Phillipa: Another battle royal, it seems these are WWE’s new favourite match, the fourth one this year if I remember rightly! But I believe Sheamus will win his second battle royal this year and his second title and unify the Intercontinental and United States Championships. It should be a decent performance will all the names involved.
Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins
The match every Shield fan has been wanting to see ever since the inevitable break up. It should be a fantastic match, there’s no doubting that but this is another match on the night which is difficult to call down the middle, a loss won’t hurt either man but a win would do both the world of good. I would prefer to see Dean Ambrose pick up a win, with Seth having the briefcase and Reigns in the title picture it seems he is relying on his character to stay relevant, but I do think Dean Ambrose will pick up a win over Seth Rollins; how he does it won’t matter.
Phillipa: Finally it is happening, the two are meeting in the ring, one-on-one and the skills on show are going to leave the WWE Universe in awe! I think both men are pretty banged up and so there is only one real result here, a DQ or a count-out for both men. When Seth fails to get the job done, Triple H will call in ‘Plan B’ and Seth will then be free to challenge Ambrose to another epic match at SummerSlam. Dean Ambrose will win via disqualification, with any hope Triple H will agree to Plan B backstage before the main event and Lesnar will meddle in the match itself.
Fatal 4 Way WWE World Heavyweight Championship: John Cena © vs. Randy Orton vs. Kane vs. Roman Reigns
It’s a shame this match is so predictable, John Cena will walk out with his championships around his waist, or around his neck based on his latest fashion trend. It will be interesting to see how this match plays out with Kane and Orton trying to take the gold, expect tensions to be high there and expect Reigns to come close. But the one reason to be excited is for Plan B; Brock Lesnar. There have been plenty of leaks and it’s almost a guarantee that Lesnar will be here, if not then certainly the following night. There’s a reason Heyman distanced himself from Cesaro this past week; to turn his attentions to Lesnar and setting up a feud with John Cena and a match at SummerSlam; here’s hoping The Beast Incarnate makes an appearance this Sunday.
Phillipa: Two men will stand out in this match and they are Roman and John, sadly it’s not Roman’s time yet. He’s climbing and he will get there but not right now, the title is Cena’s to take into SummerSlam, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to win clean, he’s going to retain but by disqualification and at what cost to him?
