LeBron James has had one of the most action-packed and momentous summers of his career, and has decided to return to his home in Cleveland. However, he still has a big decision to make, even though it may not change as much as his other big decision. Which number should LeBron wear in Cleveland?
LeBron recently asked his Instagram followers whether he should wear the classic 23 jersey that he wore while he was in Cleveland earlier in his career or whether he should change it up and try the number 6 jersey instead. It is certainly a tough decision, because he has to choose whether to start a new trend in Cleveland and stray away from his past by wearing a new number or to stick with his history and wear the same number.
If he decided to go with number 6:
Cleveland fans likely would not be very happy, for two reasons. First of all, the number 6 often reminds people of his four years in Miami, which is a sore subject for Cleveland fans. And second, it would require everyone who has his old Cleveland jersey who want to have LeBron's current jersey to buy a new jersey, and they aren't cheap.
Maybe, if its all about business, this is the way LeBron should go. It signals a new era in Cleveland and it also shows that he is a different man since he was last a part of the team.
If he decided to go with number 23:
Not only would the vintage Cleveland fans be able to use their old jerseys, but we might also see a lot of burn marks and tears in them.
It would also incite the inevitable comparisons between LeBron James and Michael Jordan if they both wore the same number and the media would also make a much bigger deal out of this than it would be.
My choice: 23
I would love to see LeBron make the return to his old number as well as his hometown. I think that it would make the city of Cleveland feel better, and it would show that LeBron is truly faithful.
