After a busy summer in the transfer market already, Newcastle are showing no signs of slowing down as they look to buy another forward.
The club now look set to follow up the signings of Remy Cabella and Emmanuel Riviere with a surprise bid for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, according to reports.
Pardew's longing for strikers
Since the start of the summer Alan Pardew has been very vocal about wanting to sign two more strikers to help ease the load on Papiss Cisse, and it seems the powerful Belgium is now the Magpies next target. Although new arrival Riviere is a natural goal scorer and has featured regularly for Monaco in Ligue 1 it seems a striker who is familiar with the Premier League is also on the agenda.
In his debut season in England Benteke managed to score an impressive 19 league goals, which unsurprisingly brought interest from many top European clubs. However after an injury hit campaign and only netting 10 times last season this interest has died down and Newcastle could sneak in and pull off one of the signings of the summer.
The main question regarding this is whether Villa would let their star striker leave without securing a significant replacement first, however many rumours are suggesting that the club would be willing to negotiate.
The asking price is not yet known but it would be significantly lower than the £25million pounds that was being mentioned last season. Although this doesn't mean Benteke will come cheap, as Villa will want a significant amount to convince them to sell to a rival Premier League club.
Newcastle are starting to mean business but is this one signing that is out of their reach?
