AS Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman will be a Manchester United player by January, according to The Daily Mail.
The Dutch playmaker has been on the radar of the scouts at Old Trafford for some time and the same newspaper claims that he would already be at the club but for an injury that caused him to miss the World Cup.
Strootman is widely regarded as one of the best in the world in his position and the 24-year old is said to be keen on a move to United.
New manager Louis van Gaal is also reportedly desperate to secure the services of defender Daley Blind, who impressed for Holland in Brazil as he begins to attempt to rebuild the United side.
Blind can play in a range of positions, including across the back four and as a holding midfielder and he would represent the type of player Van Gaal is after, as he is in the market for versatile players.
United Chief Executive Ed Woodward will be asked to do everything in his power to get the 24-year old to the club as Blind is also reportedly a target for Barcelona.
It is not known whether Strootman will sign from Roma in this transfer window or the next but nevertheless he is set to become a United player sooner rather than later in his career.
Van Gaal has already made two signings this summer - defender Luke Shaw and midfielder Ander Herrera - and it looks as though there could be many more joining the club if the manager gets his wish.
Angel Di Maria, Edinson Cavani and Arturo Vidal have all been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford and the new boss will be hoping he can continue to lure the world's best to United.
