Real Madrid have expressed an interest in bringing Manchester City striker, Alvaro Negredo, back to the Santiago Bernabeu, as cover following the departure of Alvaro Morata to Juventus, according to the Daily Mail.
Negredo only signed for Manchester City from Sevilla last season in a deal worth £16.5 million, however after a frustrating first year at the Etihad, both Real Madrid and neighbours Atletico, have expressed an interest in bringing the player back to Spain despite recent comments made by the 28-year old stressing he wishes to remain with the Premier League champions.
The striker referred to as: "The Beast," attempted to quash any rumours of his departure by telling the media last week: " don’t want to leave City," he told CityTV. "I’m very happy and very settled here.
"I had a difficult end to the season and that’s why there has been a lot of talking but I’ve been very happy here from the first day I arrived."
When asked whether he was missing life in Spain, Negredo replied: "No. Maybe a bit more on the personal side than when we talk about football but I don’t cry easily.
"I am sensible but I have to love that person a lot to feel homesick."
However despite these comments, Carlo Ancelotti is preparing to table a bid for the striker if he fails to land Radamel Falcao.
Cover for departing Morata
With 21-year old striker Morata, set to complete his €18 million move to Juventus, Ancelotti will need cover in that position if they are too challenge for silverware on all fronts this season.
One problem that could scupper any move is the £24 million valuation Manchester City have put on the player, a figure Real are not prepared to meet.
It is also thought that Atletico Madrid could be interested in bringing in the Spaniard to play alongside new signing Mario Mandzukic, in what would be a pretty useful attack for the defending La Liga champions.
Negredo a proven goalscorer
Negredo, a 21-cap Spanish international, impressed during a three-year spell with Sevilla scoring 70 goals in 139 appearances for the club, and if Los Blancos secure his services it will be the third occasion the striker has played his football at the Bernabeu following spells at the club from 2005/07 and in 2009.
Real Madrid have already brought in World Cup winner Toni Kroos, with the marquee signing James Rodriguez expected to be announce over the next day or two in a deal that is reportedly going to cost Real Madrid £70 million from Monaco.
